Poster Exhibition 2018 Second Place: Meet Iris Crespo

Poster Title: Health Related Quality of Life of Advanced Cancer Patients Who Express a Wish to Hasten Death
Iris Crespo is a psychologist trained in research and specialized in the field of comprehensive care for patients with advanced disease. I obtained my doctorate degree in 2016 from the Faculty of Medicine of the Autonomous University of Barcelona. My doctoral thesis was about psychological consequences of pituitary tumors and quality of life.
I have spent my entire professional career working in the field of clinical research. My research career began with a scholarship to promote young talent within the field of research. Once I obtained my doctorate, I was hired by the Universitat Internacional de Catalunya in Barcelona as a post-doctoral researcher. That is how I joined the palliative care research group of the WeCare: End of Life Care. During my three years at the university, my research has been focused on the psychological and spiritual aspects of cancer patients with advanced disease.
In 2017, I obtained a mobility grant for a 4 month post-doctoral research placement at the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York, a reference hospital for treatments and psychotherapies applied to cancer patients and their families.
Throughout my professional career I have collaborated in various funded, competitive and non-competitive projects, always focused on looking at the psycho-emotional consequences of non-curable diseases of great clinical complexity and their impact on the quality of life.
I am very grateful for this award and would like to congratulate you for this innovative initiative which contributes to make research and knowledge in palliative care visible to many people around the world.
